Simco Drops is pleased to present Pointy Head by Deng Shiqing, the artist's first print release. This release coincides with the artist's exhibition 'Stretched' at Simchowitz Gallery in Los Angeles.
Deng Shiqing’s Pointy Head print edition, derived from a painting of the same title, centers on the idea that individuality isn’t round. In this work, Shiqing explores how social conditioning often works to soften the rough edges of our individuality to fit a rounded mold. The work, like much of Shiqing’s paintings, contains layers of iconography and familiar symbolism. The dialogue bubbles depicted on the figure’s jacket transcribe an argument, the ellipses being dragged off by the exclamation points as the need to self-express overwhelms the desire to exist in a quiet or frictionless state. The self-portrait, located on the back of the jacket, captures the artist’s long hair, representing her personal transformation throughout her experience of the pandemic. This print edition is the first Simco Editions collaboration with the artist.
The artist's drop will start on 08/20/21 at 12:00pm PDT. The print edition will be available via the Simchowitz shop, courtesy of Simco Editions.
